GKN Automotive opens STEM Innovation Lab in Pune, India
As part of our Future Talent Programme – an initiative created to develop the next generation of engineering talent around the world - we recently opened a newly refurbished STEM Innovation Lab at Bhartiya Jain Sanghatna School, in Pune, India.
Established in partnership with the Learning Links Foundation (LLF), a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming education for vulnerable communities in India, the lab is designed to provide students with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with GKN Automotive providing funding support for day-to-day teaching costs.
The Pune lab will benefit more than 500 students, providing access to electronic tools, mechanical kits, and prototyping equipment in a safe and engaging environment.
The inauguration was led by Tom Salisbury (Director of Sustainability), alongside Sreenath (Plant Director Pune & Kadi) and Lunna Bose (Regional Director HR Asia), and the school management team.
Reflecting on the importance of the initiative, Tom shared:
“Initiatives like the STEM Innovation Lab at Bhartiya Jain Sanghatna School spark innovation and build confidence among students to tackle real-world challenges. We’re proud of the impact our Future Talent Programme has in supporting students interested in STEM subjects, as well as its role in building stronger communities and shaping the future talent that will drive sustainable progress here in India and worldwide.”
Building on the success of our STEM programmes in Oragadam and Bengaluru, India - as well as other educational initiatives supporting young people in Mexico and Poland - this programme underscores our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for young learners in the communities in which we operate.
